Employers needing reliable and motivated work-force, look no further!

Evidence from The Lattice Foundation, Timpsons and National Grid highlights that there are significant reductions in re-offending in participants who achieve nationally recognised qualifications and work experience.

6% – Lattice Foundation

7% – National Grid

This is compared with a National average re-offending rate of around 46%.  The employees engaged on these projects noted many perceived benefits of the work-based interventions including:

  • A new sense of achievement
  • Belief in oneself
  • Ability to set realistic goals
  • Patience
  • Tolerance
  • Self-confidence

These outcomes align with desistance theory which states that motivation and hope, distance from the label of offender and an internal narrative which identifies a more constructive, less stigmatised role is critical in the early stages of change.

Industry Challenges

There are significant skills shortages in:

  • Construction
  • Logistics
  • Hospitality

These exist throughout the UK, but especially in the West Midlands area.  Many employers and recruiters are now investigating the untapped talent pool that is people with convictions.

New Leaf works closely with businesses in the region and is aware of the potential impact of Brexit which may include increases in:

  • Unfilled vacancies
  • Skills shortages
  • Delays in supply chains

We are always keen to discuss challenges that businesses may face and identifying creative solutions to address these.
